چکیده
The anthozoan sea anemone Nematostella vectensis belongs to the phylum of cnidarians which also includes jellyfish and corals. are native United States East Coast marsh lands, where they constantly adapt changes in salinity, temperature, oxygen concentration pH. Its natural ability continually acclimate changing environments coupled with its genetic tractability render a powerful model organism study effects common pollutants on development these animals. Potassium nitrate, commonly used fertilizers, Phthalates, component plastics frequent environmental stressors found coastal waters. Here we present data showing how early exposure lead dramatic defects embryos eventual mortality possibly due feeding ability. Additionally, examined microbiome animals identified shifts microbial community that correlated type water was grow animals, their pollutants.

Rising starlet: the starlet sea anemone, Nematostella vectensis.
In recent years, a handful of model systems from the basal metazoan phylum Cnidaria have emerged to challenge long-held views on the evolution of animal complexity. The most-recent, and in many ways most-promising addition to this group is the starlet sea anemone, Nematostella vectensis. The remarkable amenability of this species to laboratory manipulation has already made it a productive syste...
متن کاملEmploying BAC-reporter constructs in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis.
Changes in the expression and function of genes drive evolutionary change. Comparing how genes are regulated in different species is therefore becoming an important part of evo-devo studies. A key tool for investigating the regulation of genes is represented by bacterial artificial chromosomes (BAC)-reporter constructs. BACs are large insert libraries, often >100 kb, which thus capture the geno...
متن کاملMechanisms of tentacle morphogenesis in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis.
Evolution of the capacity to form secondary outgrowths from the principal embryonic axes was a crucial innovation that potentiated the diversification of animal body plans. Precisely how such outgrowths develop in early-branching metazoan species remains poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that three fundamental processes contribute to embryonic tentacle development in the cnidarian Nematost...
متن کاملCharacterization of Morphological and Cellular Events Underlying Oral Regeneration in the Sea Anemone, Nematostella vectensis
Cnidarians, the extant sister group to bilateria, are well known for their impressive regenerative capacity. The sea anemone Nematostella vectensis is a well-established system for the study of development and evolution that is receiving increased attention for its regenerative capacity. Nematostella is able to regrow missing body parts within five to six days after its bisection, yet studies d...
متن کاملContinuous Drug Release by Sea Anemone Nematostella vectensis Stinging Microcapsules
Transdermal delivery is an attractive option for drug delivery. Nevertheless, the skin is a tough barrier and only a limited number of drugs can be delivered through it. The most difficult to deliver are hydrophilic drugs. The stinging mechanism of the cnidarians is a sophisticated injection system consisting of microcapsular nematocysts, which utilize built-in high osmotic pressures to inject ...
